The 2024 AFL Women's draft was the annual draft that enabled the 18 clubs in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition to recruit players following the 2024 AFL Women's season. It was held on 16 December 2024. It took place during the 2024–25 AFL Women's player movement period, which began in November 2024 and ran until March 2025.{{cite news|last=Welsh|first=Sophie|title=AFLW trade and draft dates locked in for 2024 season|url=https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1189913/aflw-trade-and-draft-dates-locked-in-for-2024-season|website=afl.com.au|date=8 August 2024|access-date=30 October 2024|archive-date=8 August 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240808035135/https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1189913/aflw-trade-and-draft-dates-locked-in-for-2024-season|url-status=live}}

Background

In June 2024, the Australian Football League (AFL) announced that long-time major partner Telstra had expanded its partnership with the league to become the naming rights sponsor for the AFL and AFLW drafts and both competitions' Rising Star awards from 2024 onwards.{{cite news|title=Telstra new naming rights partner of AFL/AFLW drafts, Rising Star awards|url=https://www.afl.com.au/news/1153813/telstra-backs-the-afl-and-aflw-stars-of-the-future|website=afl.com.au|date=17 June 2024|access-date=30 October 2024|archive-date=23 June 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240623234940/https://www.afl.com.au/news/1153813/telstra-backs-the-afl-and-aflw-stars-of-the-future|url-status=live}} Later that month, AFL executive general manager Laura Kane announced that the AFL Women's draft would transition to a fully national draft for the first time, following feedback from clubs and the use of an "opt-in model" in the 2023 draft, where nearly 70 per cent of draftees (including twelve of the top 16 selections) nominated for the national draft pool rather than chose to remain in their home state.{{cite news|title=AFLW evolves to national draft|url=https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1154366/aflw-evolves-to-national-draft|website=afl.com.au|date=20 June 2024|access-date=30 October 2024|archive-date=17 October 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241017172514/https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1154366/aflw-evolves-to-national-draft|url-status=live}} The draft also saw the introduction of minimum two-year contracts for draftees. In August, AFLW general manager Emma Moore announced that the girls' draft combine would also become a national event for the first time, having previously been staged only as state-based events, and would be held in Melbourne in October on the same weekend as the boys' combine.{{cite news|title=Telstra AFLW Draft Combine goes national|url=https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1196198/telstra-aflw-draft-combine-goes-national|website=afl.com.au|date=16 August 2024|access-date=30 October 2024|archive-date=20 September 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240920223437/https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1196198/telstra-aflw-draft-combine-goes-national|url-status=live}} Players who were not invited to the national combine were also able to attend smaller state-based draft combines in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.{{cite news|title=2024 Telstra AFLW Draft Combine list confirmed|url=https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1211762/2024-telstra-aflw-draft-combine-list-confirmed|website=afl.com.au|date=5 September 2024|access-date=30 October 2024|archive-date=18 September 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240918190611/https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1211762/2024-telstra-aflw-draft-combine-list-confirmed|url-status=live}}
