The vest uses eight trademarked "contact points" that simulate gunfire, body slams or G-forces associated with race car driving.{{cite web|url=https://www.forbes.com/businesswire/feeds/businesswire/2007/03/07/businesswire20070307005996r1.html |title=Get Pounded by TN Games' ForceWear(TM) Vest - Forbes.com |website=Forbes |access-date=2007-03-23 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070323025822/http://www.forbes.com/businesswire/feeds/businesswire/2007/03/07/businesswire20070307005996r1.html |archive-date=2007-03-23}} It is unique because unlike traditional force feedback accessories, the vest is directional, so that action taking place outside the players' field of view can also be felt. A player hit by gunfire from behind will actually feel the shot in his back while he may not be otherwise aware of this using standard visual display cues.{{cite news|title=PSU interview with CEO of TN Games|url=http://www.psu.com/node/8134|date=Feb 24, 2007|work=PSU.com|access-date=Dec 21, 2012|archive-url=https://archive.today/20070227114734/http://www.psu.com/node/8134|archive-date=February 27, 2007}}
Gaming reporter Charlie Demerjian of The Inquirer said, "If they can keep the price reasonable and have a few good games, this has a chance of becoming a useful gaming accessory."{{cite web|url=http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1019036/forcewear-gaming-vest-er--worn |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110611151847/http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1019036/forcewear-gaming-vest-er--worn |url-status=dead |archive-date=June 11, 2011 |title=Forcewear gaming vest, er, worn |publisher=The Inquirer |access-date=2012-07-16}} Currently, players have three ways to utilize the vest. The vest works with many games, including Call of Duty 2: 3rd Space Edition, 3rd Space Incursion, Half-Life 2: Episodes 1 & 2, Crysis, Enemy Territory Quake Wars, Clive Barker's Jericho, Unreal Tournament 3, F.E.A.R., Medal of Honor: Airborne, Quake 4 and Doom 3.{{citation needed|date=March 2017}}
