4-Methylpentedrone (also known as 4-MPD and 4-Methyl-α-methylamino-valerophenone), is a stimulant medication of the cathinone class that has been sold online as a NPS (New Psychoactive Substance). However it has already been invented in the years 1960. It has recently returned, is quite difficult to make; according resources depending on international relations.
It is a higher homolog of 4-methylmethcathinone (mephedrone) and 4-methylbuphedrone (4-MeMABP), and the p-methyl derivative of pentedrone. It can also be viewed as the methylamino analog of pyrovalerone.
A related compound, 4-methyl-α-ethylaminopentiophenone (4-MEAP), has been found to be incorrectly sold as 4-methylpentedrone.{{cite journal | vauthors = Hamby D, Burnett A, Jablonsky M, Twamley B, Kavanagh PV, Gardner EA | title = Identification of 2-(ethylamino)-1-(4-methylphenyl)-1-pentanone (4-MEAP), a New "Legal High" Sold by an Internet Vendor as 4-Methyl Pentedrone | journal = Journal of Forensic Sciences | volume = 60 | issue = 3 | pages = 721–6 | date = May 2015 | pmid = 25923458 | doi = 10.1111/1556-4029.12712 | s2cid = 19336157 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Uchiyama N, Matsuda S, Kawamura M, Shimokawa Y, Kikura-Hanajiri R, Aritake K, Urade Y, Goda Y | display-authors = 6 | title = Characterization of four new psychoactive substances, 5-chloro-NNEI, NNEI indazole analog, α-PHPP and α-POP, with 11 newly distributed designer drugs in illegal products | journal = Forensic Science International | volume = 243 | pages = 1–13 | date = October 2014 | pmid = 24769262 | doi = 10.1016/j.forsciint.2014.03.013 }}
