The 50th Saturn awards were preceded by the 46th Saturn Awards, held in 2021. This year, several new television categories were introduced. For the first time since the 45th Saturn Awards, the television awards were split into "Network / Cable" and "Streaming" categories; however, this was discontinued the following ceremony. The Batman led the nominations for film with twelve, including Best Superhero Film and four acting nominations, followed by Nightmare Alley with ten and Spider-Man: No Way Home with nine.
