5tion ({{korean||hangul=오션|hanja=|rr=Osyeon}}) is a South Korean boy band popular during the early 2000s. The group's name is pronounced ocean as a play on words with the Korean word for '5' being 'oh'.
History
In 2004, two members Lee Hyun & Hwang Sung-hwan (John) spun off into a project group called 'After Rain'.{{cite web|url=http://sports.hankooki.com/lpage/music/200405/sp2004052613150834210.htm|script-title=ko:오션 해체 안 했어요|date=2004-05-26|access-date=2014-08-08|language=ko}}
In mid-2010, Hwang Sung-hwan (John) departed and formed 2NISE with Hohyeon & Jogeun.{{cite web|url=http://www.allkpop.com/article/2010/04/2nise-releases-their-first-album|title=2NISE releases their first album|date=2010-04-14|access-date=2014-08-08}}
Later in September 2010, 5tion made a comeback as a three-member group consisting of Hwang Sung-hwan (John), Lee Hyun & Woo Il.{{cite web|url=http://www.allkpop.com/article/2010/09/5tion-to-comeback-as-3-members|title=5tion to comeback as 3 members|date=2010-09-29|access-date=2014-08-08}}
In March 2012, the group made another comeback with a new member roster and stage names, reuniting three original members (Oh Byung-jin, Lee Hyun & Son Il-kwon) with two new members (LEN & Boseok). Wanting to reach out to the international fanbase, member names were changed to be more foreign sounding. Oh Byung-jin would be known as 'Cain', Son Il-kwon would be 'Roy' and Lee Hyun was shortened to 'Hyun'. Originally a ballad group, the return saw a change to dance music.{{cite web|title=5tion to make a comeback with "Let's Get Married"|url=http://www.allkpop.com/2012/02/5tion-to-make-a-comeback-with-lets-get-married|publisher=Allkpop|access-date=25 January 2013|date=2012-02-10}}{{cite web|title=일본 최고 예능 '데츠코의 방', 한국 출연자 5tion은 누구?|url=http://star.ohmynews.com/NWS_Web/OhmyStar/at_pg.aspx?CNTN_CD=A0001768560|publisher=OhmyStar|access-date=25 January 2013|language=ko|date=2012-08-17}}
On January 15, 2017, the group was involved in a car crash while performing in Japan. This occurred when the van slid on an icy road and into a delivery truck; they were immediately rushed to the hospital, and none of the group members were later reported to have had any serious injuries.{{Cite news|url=http://www.asiastarz.com/articles/21090/20170117/5tion-involved-in-serious-car-crash-in-japan-members-condition-still-unknown.htm|title=5TION involved in serious car crash in Japan; Members' condition still unknown|date=2017-01-17|newspaper=ASZ News|access-date=2017-02-10|language=en}}
After two years of inactivity, on April 29 2022, they announced a comeback through a live concert called "COME BACK" in Tokyo being on May 6 2022 followed by Live in OSAKA on May 14 and 15, 2022.
