Alkaline ceramidase 2 also known as ACER2 is a ceramidase enzyme which in humans is encoded by the ACER2 gene.{{cite journal |vauthors=Mao C, Obeid LM | title = Ceramidases: regulators of cellular responses mediated by ceramide, sphingosine, and sphingosine-1-phosphate | journal = Biochim. Biophys. Acta | volume = 1781 | issue = 9 | pages = 424–34 |date=September 2008 | pmid = 18619555 | doi = 10.1016/j.bbalip.2008.06.002 | pmc = 2614331 }}

Function

The ACER2/sphingosine pathway plays an important role in regulating integrin β1 subunit (ITGB1) maturation and cell adhesion mediated by β1 integrins.{{cite journal |vauthors=Sun W, Hu W, Xu R, Jin J, Szulc ZM, Zhang G, Galadari SH, Obeid LM, Mao C | title = Alkaline ceramidase 2 regulates beta1 integrin maturation and cell adhesion | journal = FASEB J. | volume = 23 | issue = 2 | pages = 656–66 |date=February 2009 | pmid = 18945876 | doi = 10.1096/fj.08-115634 | doi-access = free | pmc = 2630785 }}
