Accommodative infacility also known as accommodative inertia{{cite book |last1=William J. |first1=Benjamin |title=Borish's clinical refraction |date=2006 |publisher=Butterworth Heinemann/Elsevier |location=St. Louis Mo. |isbn=978-0-7506-7524-6 |edition=2nd |chapter= Accommodation, the Pupil, and Presbyopia| page=112}} is the inability to change the accommodation of the eye with enough speed and accuracy to achieve normal function. This can result in visual fatigue, headaches, and difficulty reading.{{Cite journal|last1=Cacho-Martínez|first1=Pilar|last2=Cantó-Cerdán|first2=Mario|last3=Carbonell-Bonete|first3=Stela|last4=García-Muñoz|first4=Ángel|date=2015-08-16|title=Characterization of Visual Symptomatology Associated with Refractive, Accommodative, and Binocular Anomalies|url=https://paperity.org/p/129700639/characterization-of-visual-symptomatology-associated-with-refractive-accommodative-and|journal=Journal of Ophthalmology|volume=2015|issue=2015|pages=895803|doi=10.1155/2015/895803|pmid=26351575|pmc=4553196|doi-access=free}} The delay in accurate accommodation also makes vision blurry for a moment when switching between distant and near objects. The duration and extent of this blurriness depends on the extent of the deficit.{{Cite journal|last1=Hennessey|first1=Daniel|last2=Iosue|first2=Richard A.|last3=Rouse|first3=Michael W.|date=1984|title=Relation of Symptoms to Accommodative Infacility of School-Aged Children|url=https://dx.doi.org/10.1097/00006324-198403000-00005|journal=Optometry and Vision Science|language=en-US|volume=61|issue=3|pages=177–183|doi=10.1097/00006324-198403000-00005|issn=1538-9235|pmid=6720863|s2cid=41568042|url-access=subscription}}
Signs and symptoms
Treatment
Vision assessment and cycloplegic refraction should be done. If there is any refractive errors, it should be corrected before considering orthoptic treatments. The accommodative infacility is commonly treated with vision therapy/orthoptics; one study found that 12 weeks of treatment had a significant effect on visual accommodation.{{Cite journal|last1=Scheiman|first1=Mitchell|last2=Cotter|first2=Susan|last3=Kulp|first3=Marjean Taylor|last4=Mitchell|first4=G.
