The phylum Cnidaria: a review of phylogenetic patterns and diversity 300 years after Linnaeus. Until 2014, this taxon was considered to be a separate suborder of the order Actiniaria.
The following families are recognized in the superfamily Actinernoidea:Rodríguez, E., Barbeitos, M. S., Brugler, M.R., Crowley, L. M., Grajales, A., Gusmão, L., Häussermann, V., Reft, A. & Daly, M. (2104). Hidden among sea anemones: The first comprehensive phylogenetic reconstruction of the order Actiniaria (Cnidaria, Anthozoa, Hexacorallia) reveals a novel group of hexacorals.
