Actinium(III) nitrate is an inorganic compound, actinium salt of nitric acid with the chemical formula Ac(NO3)3. The compound looks like white substance, readily soluble in water.{{cite journal |last1=Ferrier |first1=Maryline G. |last2=Stein |first2=Benjamin W. |last3=Batista |first3=Enrique R. |last4=Berg |first4=John M. |last5=Birnbaum |first5=Eva R. |last6=Engle |first6=Jonathan W. |last7=John |first7=Kevin D. |last8=Kozimor |first8=Stosh A. |last9=Lezama Pacheco |first9=Juan S. |last10=Redman |first10=Lindsay N. |title=Synthesis and Characterization of the Actinium Aquo Ion |journal=ACS Central Science |date=22 March 2017 |volume=3 |issue=3 |pages=176–185 |doi=10.1021/acscentsci.6b00356 |pmid=28386595 |issn=2374-7943|pmc=5364452 }}

Synthesis

Actinium nitrate can be obtained by dissolving actinium or actinium hydroxide in nitric acid.

:{{chem2|Ac(OH)3 + 3HNO3 → Ac(NO3)3 + 3H2O}}

Properties

Actinium(III) nitrate decomposes on heating above 600 °C:

:{{chem2|4Ac(NO3)3 → 2Ac2O3 + 12NO2 + 3O2}}

This salt is used as a source of Ac3+ ions to obtain insoluble actinium compounds by precipitation from aqueous solutions.{{cite journal |last1=Salutsky |first1=M. L. |last2=Kirby |first2=H.
