Discovery and naming
The name Adler's mouse opossum was named after Greg Adler, a biologist at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh{{Cite web|last=Johnson|first=Natalie|date=2021-12-08|title=New opossum species named for UWO biologist Greg Adler|url=https://uwosh.edu/today/101441/new-opossum-species-named-for-uwo-biologist-greg-adler/|access-date=2021-12-13|website=UW Oshkosh Today|language=en-US}} The Adler's mouse opossum was discovered in 2021 by a team of researchers from the American Museum of Natural History, Siena College and the Bell Museum at the University of Minnesota.
