Agir, officially Agir, la droite constructive ({{IPA|fr|a.ʒiʁ|}}; {{literal translation|Act, the Constructive Right}}), is a political party in France, established on 26 November 2017.{{cite web|last1=Contiguglia|first1=Cat|title=French politicians launch new party in challenge to conservatives|url=https://www.politico.eu/article/french-politicians-launch-new-party-in-challenge-to-conservatives/|website=Politico.eu|date=26 November 2017 |access-date=27 November 2017}} The majority of its founding members were previously associated with the Constructive faction within The Republicans. Styling itself as a "liberal, social, European, humanist and reformist" party, Agir was founded by a group of 19 established politicians as an alternative to The Republicans.{{cite web|last1=Mourgue|first1=Marion|title="Agir, la droite constructive", une nouvelle force politique à droite|url=http://www.lefigaro.fr/politique/2017/11/26/01002-20171126ARTFIG00022-agir-la-droite-constructive-une-nouvelle-force-politique-a-droite.php|website=Le Figaro|date=26 November 2017 |access-date=27 November 2017}} The party merged with Renaissance (formerly La République En Marche!) as an "associate party" in 2022.{{Cite news |last=Goar |first=Matthieu |date=2022-09-18 |title=Renaissance: A new party to revive Macron's wish to 'overcome differences' |language=en |work=Le Monde |url=https://www.lemonde.fr/en/politics/article/2022/09/18/renaissance-a-new-party-to-revive-macron-s-wish-to-overcome-differences_5997452_5.html |access-date=2023-05-31}}
Agir Members of Parliament (MPs) were members of the Agir ensemble parliamentary group in the National Assembly. Fabienne Keller was the party's only Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
History
=Formation=
Following the defeat of Les Républicains (LR) candidate François Fillon in the first round of the 2017 French presidential election and the ascension of Laurent Wauquiez, perceived as coming from the right wing of Les Républicains, to the leadership of the party, 19 politicians from LR and the centre-right Union of Democrats and Independents formed the group.{{cite web|last1=Contiguglia|first1=Cat|title=French politicians launch new party in challenge to conservatives|url=https://www.politico.eu/article/french-politicians-launch-new-party-in-challenge-to-conservatives/|website=Politico.eu|date=26 November 2017 |access-date=25 August 2021}}
= Coalition and merger =
In the run-up to the 2022 French presidential election, Agir joined and formed part of the Ensemble Citoyens coalition, which supported President Emmanuel Macron in his re-election bid.{{Cite web |date=2021-11-30 |title=«Ensemble citoyens !» : la majorité lance son alliance en soutien à Macron |url=https://www.lefigaro.fr/elections/presidentielles/ensemble-citoyens-la-majorite-lance-son-alliance-en-soutien-a-macron-20211130 |access-date=2022-07-01 |website=LEFIGARO |language=fr}} The party grew closer to Macron's political camp following the election, and when it was later announced that his party would attempt to unify the presidential majority into a single party grouping, Agir took steps towards integrating into the ruling majority. Ultimately, Agir merged into Macron's party as it reformed and rebranded under the name Renaissance on 17 September 2022.{{Cite news |last=Goar |first=Matthieu |date=2022-09-17 |title=Renaissance, Emmanuel Macron's smaller-than-expected new party |language=en |work=Le Monde |url=https://www.lemonde.fr/en/politics/article/2022/09/17/renaissance-emmanuel-macron-s-smaller-than-expected-new-party_5997317_5.html |access-date=2023-06-02}}
Ideology
Agir was identified as part of centre-right politics, defining itself as pro-European, liberal and humanist, and rejecting the "identitarian, authoritarian, eurosceptic and ultra-conservative" right.{{Cite web|title=Présentation|url=https://agir-ladroiteconstructive.fr/qui-sommes-nous/presentation/|access-date=2021-10-23|website=agir_ la droite constructive|language=fr-FR}}
