Ahmed Easa (born 7 October 1985) is a Maldivian film actor.

Career

In his childhood, Ahmed Easa watched Bollywood films and imitated the acting of Sunil Shetty in stage performances.{{cite news |url=https://www.muniavas.com/4049 |title=Aanadu donning a different role in Dhevansoora |language=Divehi |work=Muniavas |last=Rasheed |first=Ahmed |date=27 January 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20190406121340/https://www.muniavas.com/4049 |url-status=live |archivedate=6 April 2019 |accessdate=6 April 2019 |df=dmy-all }} While watching his movies, Easa grew a fondness towards cinema and decided to pursue a career in acting "if granted with a chance worth holding for". He was first offered a role in Amjad Ibrahim's romantic horror film Udhabaani (2009) but he rejected it since he was "too shy to be in front of the camera with his current physique". However, he made his film debut two years later with Hamid Ali's Laelaa (2011) co-starring Yoosuf Shafeeu, Amira Ismail and Ali.{{cite news |url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/maldives_film_industry/111087 |title="Laela": Why is a good screenplay needed? |language=Divehi|work=Haveeru |last=Nadheem |first=Ahmed |date=6 October 2011 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111011190147/http://www.haveeru.com.mv/dhivehi/entertainment/maldives_film_industry/111087 |url-status=dead |archivedate=2011-10-11 |accessdate=5 October 2018 }} The film revolves around two daughters who are forced into an arranged marriages by their parents. The film and his performance received a negative response from critics; "The newcomer is strictly average in his performance but he needs to be more confident in his moves and work on the dialogue delivery if needs to survive in the industry". The film was declared a flop at box office.{{cite news |url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/110747 |title=Laela's premiere: A big satisfaction for Hamid |language=Divehi|work=Haveeru |last=Nadheem |first=Ahmed |date=29 September 2011 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111002195434/http://www.haveeru.com.mv/dhivehi/entertainment/110747 |url-status=dead |archivedate=2011-10-02 |accessdate=11 October 2018 }}

After shooting a video single with Yoosuf Shafeeu, Easa was asked to feature in his thirtieth direction Dhevansoora (2018), a suspense thriller film featuring an ensemble cast including Shafeeu, Mariyam Shifa, Ali Azim and Fathimath Azifa in pivotal roles.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/25449 |title="Dhevansoora": A suspense thriller by Eupe |language=Divehi|work=Mihaaru |last=Adhushan |first=Ahmed |date=21 October 2017 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20180328111609/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/25449|url-status=live |archivedate=28 March 2018 |accessdate=28 March 2018 |df=dmy-all}}{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/27223 |title="Dhevansoora" to release on February 6 |language=Divehi|work=Mihaaru |last=Adhushan |first=Ahmed |date=29 November 2017 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20180328111057/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/27223|url-status=live |archivedate=28 March 2018 |accessdate=28 March 2018 |df=dmy-all}} He initially shot for the role of a policeman, portrayed by Mohamed Faisal in the film, before Shafeeu suggested he switch to a "more complex" role since he was unable to find anyone "who fits the bill" for that role. Revolving around a murder investigating, Easa played a delivery boy who has been accused to be involved in the murder crime.{{cite news |url=https://sun.mv/96653 |title=Dhevansoora is a must watch |language=Divehi |work=Sun |last=Fareeha |first=Aishath |date=4 November 2017 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181120063343/https://sun.mv/96464 |url-status=live |archivedate=20 November 2018 |accessdate=20 November 2018 |df=dmy-all }} The film received positive reviews from critics and was considered a "norm-breaker" for the Maldivian cinema. Ahmed Hameed Adam reviewing from VNews applauded Easa's performance while playing the "strong-headed man and the vulnerable attacker".{{cite news |url=http://vnews.mv/95298 |title=Dhevansoora: Re-writing History of Maldivian Cinema |language=Divehi |work=VNews |last=Adam |first=Ahmed Hameed |date=8 February 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20190419092414/http://vnews.mv/95298 |url-status=live |archivedate=19 April 2019 |accessdate=19 April 2019 |df=dmy-all }} He then starred in the first Maldivian web-series, a romantic drama by Fathimath Nahula, Huvaa.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/31773 |title=Huvaa: Nahula starts her web-series |work=Mihaaru |language=Divehi |last=Adhushan |first=Ahmed |date=27 February 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181130093034/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/31773 |url-status=live |archivedate=30 November 2018 |accessdate=30 November 2018|df=dmy-all}} The series consisting of sixty episodes and streamed through the digital platform Baiskoafu, centers around a happy and radiant family which breaks into despairing pieces after a tragic incident that led to an unaccountable loss.{{cite news|url=http://sun.mv/110406 |title="Huvaa" is a hard work, it will be nice! |work=Sun |language=Divehi |last=Musthafa |first=Mohamed |date=18 October 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181130111442/http://sun.mv/110406 |url-status=live |archivedate=30 November 2018 |accessdate=30 November 2018|df=dmy-all}}{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/43404 |title="Huvaa" can be viewed through Baiskoafu application |work=Mihaaru |language=Divehi |last=Adhushan |first=Ahmed |date=7 October 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181130104538/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/43404 |url-status=live |archivedate=30 November 2018 |accessdate=30 November 2018|df=dmy-all}} The series and his performance as an irresponsible and lazy husband and a drug addict were positively received.{{cite news|url=http://sun.mv/111524 |title=Nahula's "Huvaa" to be released for streaming tomorrow |work=Sun |language=Divehi |last=Musthafa |first=Mohamed |date=28 November 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181130112656/http://sun.mv/112249 |url-status=live |archivedate=30 November 2018 |accessdate=30 November 2018|df=dmy-all}}{{cite news|url=http://sun.mv/112336 |title=First episode of "Huvaa" was a success |work=Sun |language=Divehi |last=Musthafa |first=Mohamed |date=30 November 2018 |archiveurl=https://archive.today/20181130113141/http://sun.mv/112336 |url-status=live |archivedate=30 November 2018 |accessdate=30 November 2018|df=dmy-all}}
