Ajax Bay is a settlement on East Falkland, in the Falkland Islands. It is on the north west coast, on the shore of San Carlos Water, a few miles from Port San Carlos. It was mainly a refrigeration plant, and was developed by the Colonial Development Corporation in the 1950s, which was also responsible for developing Port Albemarle. It was supposed to freeze Falkland mutton, but this was found to be economically unviable. Many of the pre-fabricated houses were moved to Stanley.{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=GbrCNm1n9D0C&pg=PA96 | title=The Falklands & South Georgia Island | publisher=Lonely Planet | author=Wheeler, Tony | year=2004 | pages=96–97| isbn=9781740596435 }}
During the Falklands War, the first British bridgehead was established on San Carlos Water on 21 May 1982. Ajax Bay was one of three landing points, and codenamed "Red Beach" as part of Operation Sutton.{{cite web |title=On this day 21 May 1982 |url=https://www.fleetairarmoa.org/news/on-this-day-21-may-1982 |website=Fleet Air Arm Officers Association |access-date=19 April 2022 |date=21 May 2013}} The next day, the refrigeration plant became a field hospital, the Advanced Surgical Centre. It was run by Surgeon Commander Rick Jolly and operated until 9 June.{{cite journal |last1=Marsh |first1=A R |title=A Short but Distant War - the Falklands Campaign |journal=Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine |date=November 1983 |volume=76 |issue=11 |pages=972–982 |doi=10.1177/014107688307601119 |pmid=6138433 |pmc=1439657 |s2cid=30170661 |doi-access=free }}
