Norimura supported Emperor Go-Daigo and Ashikaga Takauji in the struggle to overcome the Kamakura shogunate.{{Cite book |last=Sansom |first=George |title=A History of Japan, 1334-1615 |publisher=Stanford University Press |year=1961 |ISBN=0804705259 |page=11,13,15,36}} Akamatsu joined Takauji in capturing Kyoto from imperial forces on 23 Feb. 1336.{{rp|40,44}} He then became a part of the Ashikaga shogunate.
