History

Akuna was thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning to follow.{{NSW GNR|id=JPIOWyUl|title=Akuna Bay (urban place)}} It actually is a mangled version of the Dieri word ngaka-rna meaning "to flow" from South Australia.{{cite web | url=http://www.paradisec.org.au/blog/2014/07/what-flows-from-ngaka-rna-how-naming-books-spread-a-dieri-word/ | title=What flows from ngaka-rna : How naming books spread a Dieri word | date=15 July 2014 }}

In 1972 the construction of a marina was proposed and it was completed in 1974.{{Cite book|url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/version/20938838|title=Environmental impact study on a proposed marina and facilities at Akuna Bay, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, New South Wales|last=Philip Cox|first=Storey & Partners|date=1972|publisher=[Australia : Philip Cox, Storey & Partners|language=en}}
