Smoke, a Mississauga Anishinaabe First Nations member, was born in 1894 and raised at Curve Lake.{{cite web|url=https://pdshof.com/inductees/albert-smoke/ |title=Albert Smoke |work=Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame & Museum |access-date=January 8, 2022}} He was 4'10",{{cite web|url=https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/on/rouge/culture/autochtone-indigenous/athlete |title=Indigenous athletes |work=Parks Canada |access-date=January 8, 2022}} and considered amongst the best long-distance runners of his era.
