Etymology

The word alcove originates from Arabic {{lang|ar|القبة}} ({{IPA|ar|ʔalqubːa||Q1067091-ar.ogg}}), {{Transliteration|ar|al-}} 'the' and {{Transliteration|ar|qubbah}} 'vault' (through the Spanish {{lang|es|alcoba}}).{{citation needed|date=April 2020}}
