Alexander Clas Robin Gerndt (born 14 July 1986) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a striker.
Club career
=AIK=
Born and raised in Visby, on the island of Gotland, Gerndt started to play for the island's top club Visby IF Gute during his youth system. As Gute's second best goal-scorer, he drew attention from Swedish top league clubs such as Örebro SK and AIK.{{cite web|url=http://www.fotbolldirekt.com/node/20871 |title=Gerndt testar vidare – gör succé i Örebro |date=27 October 2006 |access-date=18 July 2011 |publisher=FotbollDirekt |language=sv |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110930063930/http://www.fotbolldirekt.com/node/20871 |archive-date=30 September 2011 }}{{cite web|url=http://www.aik.se/fotboll/aikindex.html?/fotboll/2006/herrar/lasvart/061011_provspelare.html |title=Gerndt från Visby Gute provspelar |publisher=AIK Fotboll |author=Tommy Bäckman |language=sv |date=11 October 2006 |access-date=18 July 2011 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120322015626/http://www.aik.se/fotboll/aikindex.html?%2Ffotboll%2F2006%2Fherrar%2Flasvart%2F061011_provspelare.html |archive-date=22 March 2012 }} On 3 November 2006, he signed a three-year contract with AIK.{{cite web|url=http://www.aik.se/fotboll/aikindex.html?/fotboll/2006/herrar/lasvart/061103_gerndt.html |title=Alexander Gerndt klar för AIK |publisher=AEK |author=Tommy Bäckman |language=sv |date=3 November 2006 |access-date=18 July 2011 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120322015631/http://www.aik.se/fotboll/aikindex.html?%2Ffotboll%2F2006%2Fherrar%2Flasvart%2F061103_gerndt.html |archive-date=22 March 2012 }}
In 2007, he only made five appearances in the league, all without scoring. Struggling to make it into the starting 11, he was loaned out to the second-tier club Sirius prior to the 2008 season.{{cite web|url=http://www.siriusfotboll.com/web/truppen/Default.asp?pId=824&modVID=102&modID=1808|title=Sirius lånar Alexander Gerndt från AIK|date=20 December 2007|access-date=28 April 2010|publisher=IK Sirius Fotboll|language=sv|archive-date=13 March 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120313231554/http://www.siriusfotboll.com/web/truppen/Default.asp?pId=824&modVID=102&modID=1808|url-status=dead}} In Sirius, he made 14 appearances, scoring six goals.
=Gefle=
Although it was thought that he would stay the entire season on loan at Sirius, he signed for Gefle in the top flight division during the summer transfer window of 2008.{{cite web|url=http://www.gefleiffotboll.se/nyheter/256/|title=Gerndt klar för Gefle IF|date=21 July 2008|access-date=28 April 2010|publisher=Gefle IF|language=sv|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110722213300/http://www.gefleiffotboll.se/nyheter/256/|archive-date=22 July 2011|url-status=dead}}
His start in Gefle was not a success at all; he did not score any goals for the club during 2008.
In the season of 2009, Gerndt played 26 out of 30 league games (14 as a starter), scoring 3 goals.[https://svenskfotboll.se/allsvenskan/person/?playerid=5017 "Alexander Gerndt — svenskfotboll.se"] (in Swedish)
In 2010, he made a major breakthrough in his career. Showing much improvement, he scored 8 goals in the first 14 games for Gefle. As a fact of that, it was rumored that he would make a transfer to the Dutch team Heerenveen in the summer transfer windows of 2010, but also that Helsingborg wanted his signature.{{cite news |url=http://fotboll.expressen.se/allsvenskan/1.2067499/gefle-och-gerndt-overens-om-hif-flytt |title=Gefle och Gerndt överens om HIF-flytt |newspaper=Expressen |author=Rebecka Martikainen |language=sv |date=17 July 2010 |access-date=19 July 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100719031351/http://fotboll.expressen.se/allsvenskan/1.2067499/gefle-och-gerndt-overens-om-hif-flytt |archive-date=19 July 2010 |url-status=dead}}
=Helsingborg=
On 18 July 2010, it was confirmed that he would move to Helsingborg, signing a 3.5 year contract. Helsingborg were during that time a club fighting to be the Swedish champions of 2010.{{cite web | url=http://www.fotbollskanalen.se/1.1718317/2010/07/18/klart_gerndt_kritar_pa_for_helsingborg |title=KLART: Skyttekung till HIF: "Väldigt nöjda" |publisher=Fotbollskanalen |author=Hampus Hagman |language=sv |date=18 July 2010 |access-date=18 July 2011| archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20110721235929/http://www.fotbollskanalen.se/1.1718317/2010/07/18/klart_gerndt_kritar_pa_for_helsingborg| archive-date= 21 July 2011 | url-status= live}}
Gerndt continued to score goals and was a major reason that Helsingborg could battle against their biggest rivals Malmö for the title into the last round of the league. In 15 games, he scored 12 goals and was the top-scorer of Allsvenskan in 2010 with a total of 20 goals. Alexander Gerndt was also named the Player of the Year in the 2010 Allsvenskan. He received the price at a gala in Malmö, the city of Helsingborg's rivals, and was greeted by whistles from the crowd. Alexander Gerndt, however, took his time and waited them out to have utter silence when holding his winning speech.{{cite web|url=http://www.gotland.net/sv/att-gora/gerndt-arets-allsvenska-spelare |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110102155649/http://www.gotland.net/sv/att-gora/gerndt-arets-allsvenska-spelare |url-status=dead |archive-date=2 January 2011 |title=Gerndt årets allsvenska spelare |publisher=Gotland.net |author=Bo Eriksson |language=sv |date=16 November 2010 |access-date=19 July 2011 }}

Alexander Gerndt's first game with FC Utrecht did not come in the team's premiere game of the season on 6 August 2011; the Swedish Discipline Committee suspended Alexander Gerndt between 5–7 August as a result of an incident on 23 July when he punched Malmö player Miljan Mutavdžić in the head, and the suspension was carried over to FC Utrecht as the Dutch Football Association (DFA) was notified by the Swedish Football Association (SFA) of the suspension.{{cite news |url=http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/internationell/holland/article13422037.ab |title=Gerndt får inte spela premiären med Utrecht |newspaper=Aftonbladet |author=Johan Flinck, Fredrik Jönsson |language=sv |date=4 August 2011 |access-date=4 August 2011}}{{cite news |url=http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/sverige/allsvenskan/helsingborg/article13367280.ab |title=Gerndt lämnade HIF – med ett rött kort |newspaper=Aftonbladet |author=Daniel Grefve |language=sv |date=23 July 2011 |access-date=24 July 2011}} Instead, his debut game with FC Utrecht came on 14 August 2011, at home against De Graafschap.
