Alaalatoa's father Vili is a fan of cricket and named him after the Australia cricket captain Allan Border. Career

Alaalatoa hails from a rugby family with father Vili playing for {{nrut|Samoa}} in the 1991 Rugby World Cup and brother Michael also going on to play professionally with the New South Wales Waratahs, the Crusaders and Leinster rugby. He attended Newington College where he played for three years in the 1st XV and completed the HSC in 2011.[http://newsletter.newington.nsw.edu.au/blackandwhite/article/sport-report-17/ Black & White] Retrieved 2 May 2015. His big break came ahead of the 2014 Super Rugby season when he was named in the Brumbies extended playing squad. He didn't get any game time during the regular season, but surprisingly was given a debut off the replacements bench in the Brumbies 32-30 victory over the {{Rut|Chiefs}} during the Super Rugby playoffs.{{cite web | url=http://sarugby.net/matchbreakdown.aspx?id=114884&category=sarugby/superrugby&leagueid=1574&homeid=16244&awayid=16204&fullview=true | title=Brumbies vs Chiefs 19 July 2014 Match Breakdown | publisher=SA Rugby | access-date=21 July 2014 | archive-date=17 March 2015 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150317231515/http://sarugby.net/matchbreakdown.aspx?id=114884&category=sarugby%2Fsuperrugby&leagueid=1574&homeid=16244&awayid=16204&fullview=true | url-status=dead }}

International

Alaalatoa is in the rare position of having represented his country in 3 consecutive IRB Junior World Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.{{cite web | url=http://www.irb.com/jwc/teams/team=4162/player=45629/index.html | title=Allan Alaalatoa IRB JWC Player Profile | publisher=IRB | access-date=21 July 2014 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140717195409/http://www.irb.com/jwc/teams/team=4162/player=45629/index.html | archive-date=17 July 2014 | url-status=dead | df=dmy-all }}

In 2016, Alaalatoa was named in the Wallabies preliminary 39-man squad for the 2016 series against England.[http://www.rugby.com.au/News/2016/05/26/02/41/Wallabies-squad-full-of-surprises Wallabies squad full of surprises]

He has been selected for his first test against New Zealand, starting on the bench in the Bledisloe Cup on 20 August 2016.{{Cite web|url=http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/rugby-union/australia-rugby/michael-cheika-names-experienced-wallabies-squad-for-bledisloe-cup-opener-20160818-gqvemd.html|title = Michael Cheika names experienced Wallabies squad for Bledisloe Cup opener|date = 18 August 2016}}
