Biography
Born in Barnsley, McKay was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Yorkshire constituency of Penistone in a 1978 by-election following the death of the Labour MP John Mendelson,{{cite news|url=http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/analysis/the-week-that-was-july-5-to-11-1978-1-7997487|title=The week that was: July 5 to 11, 1978 |work=Yorkshire Evening Post |date=5 July 2016 |accessdate=27 November 2016}} serving there until the seat was abolished for the 1983 general election.
