Accessed through: World Register of Marine * At http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=138275 on 2012-08-31 They are found in various locations such as the Eastern Pacific coasts of the United States and Mexico, Japan, and the Mediterranean. {{Cite journal |last=Sartori |first=Andre F. |date=2014 |title=Three new species of Ammonicera from the Eastern Pacific coast of North America, with redescriptions and comments on other species of Omalogyridae (Gastropoda, Heterobranchia) |url=https://mapress.com/zootaxa/2014/f/zt03872p021.pdf |journal=Zootaxa |volume=3872 |issue=1 |pages=001–021 |doi=10.11646/zootaxa.3872.1.1 |pmid=25544067 |via=Mapress}}

This genus comprises the smallest gastropods known, featuring discoid, planispiral shells that typically measure in the adult state 1 mm or even less in size. The protoconch is characterized by distinct ridges and grooves. The teleoconch typically displays prominent sculpture, though it is occasionally weak. The aperture ranges from rounded to subquadrate. {{cite journal |last1=Oliver, J. The diet of the Ammonicera is not confirmed, however, based on the diets of other Omalogyridae, it is assumed to feed on several algal species in its habitat.{{Cite journal |last=Bieler |first=Rudiger |date=1998 |title=Amrnonicera in Florida: Notes on the Smallest Living Gastropod in the United States and Comments on Other Species of Omalogyridae (Heterobranchia) |url=https://www.researchgate.net/publication/261158613 |journal=The Nautilus |volume=111 |issue=1 |pages=1–12 |via=Research Gate}}
