He was one of the team's top players during the years of the Occupation when the team faced great difficulties. In the spring of 1942 he was the captain of Panathinaikos during the friendly match with AEK, the proceeds of which were intended for the Sotiria hospital. After the Germans' refusal to allocate match proceeds for this purpose, the two captains of the teams, him and Kleanthis Maropoulos, went to the stands, conveying the protests to the fans, who erupted into incidents against the conquerors.{{Cite web|url=https://www.newsbeast.gr/weekend/arthro/4129549/ti-egine-sto-elliniko-podosfairo-ton-kairo-tis-katochis|title=Τι έγινε στο ελληνικό ποδόσφαιρο τον καιρό της Κατοχής|date=October 27, 2018|website=newsbeast.gr}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.sport24.gr/longreads/to-gennaio-ochi-toy-athlitismoy-stin-katochi.8207272.html|title=Το γενναίο 'ΟΧΙ' του αθλητισμού στην Κατοχή|first=Επιμέλεια: Νίκος Συριώδης Δημοσίευση: 28|last=Οκτ 2014 07:44|website=sport24.gr}}{{Cite web|url=https://ethniki-antistasi-dse.gr/to-podosfairo-sthn-antistash.html|title=Το ποδόσφαιρο στην Αντίσταση|website=ethniki-antistasi-dse.gr}}
