Andersen Press is a British book publishing company. It was founded in 1976 by Klaus Flugge, and was named after Hans Christian Andersen "because it is easier to pronounce and spell than Flugge".{{cite magazine |last1=Court |first1=Joy |title=Andersen Press – Forty Years Young |url=https://booksforkeeps.co.uk/article/andersen-press-forty-years-young/ |website=Books for Keeps |number=216|date=January 2016|access-date=16 February 2024}} Random House has a holding in the company and a strong association with Andersen.[http://www.allbusiness.com/retail-trade/miscellaneous-retail-miscellaneous/4651445-1.html "Andersen Press celebrates silver jubilee"], Bookseller, 14 September 2001.[http://www.randomhouse.co.uk/childrens/aboutus/aboutus.htm#faqs "About us - Company history"], Random House. The first book on the list was Goldilocks and the Three Bears by the then newly discovered Tony Ross, who wrote the popular children's series Little Princess.{{cite web |title=Tony Ross reveals plans for Little Princess reissues |url=https://www.thebookseller.com/news/tony-ross-reveals-plans-little-princess-reissues-477906 |website=The Bookseller|first=Francesca|last= Pymm |date=27 January 2017|access-date=6 June 2021}} The Andersen list now consists of more than 1000 published titles, the majority of which are still in print.
Andersen Press specialises in picture books and children's fiction, and the authors it publishes include Melvin Burgess, Max Velthuijs, Ralph Steadman, Quentin Blake, Jeanne Willis and Emma Chichester Clark. Perhaps the most well-known character on the list is Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, created by David McKee.{{cite web |last1=Flood |first1=Alison |title=Elmer author David McKee: I've never been a prize-winner |url=https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/sep/24/david-mckee-elmer-mr-benn-booktrust-lifetime-achievement-award |website=The Guardian |date=24 September 2020|access-date=6 June 2021}}
