Andrew Ian Gait (born 19 December 1978) is a British–South African former cricketer who was born in Rhodesia.{{Cite web|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/wasim-brings-his-soul-to-county-party-115864.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201110221806/https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/wasim-brings-his-soul-to-county-party-115864.html |archive-date=2020-11-10 |url-access=limited |url-status=live|title=Wasim brings his soul to county party|date=20 April 2003|website=The Independent}} He is a right-handed batsman.
Gait has played in two Youth Test matches, scoring a half-century in his first, and also played at the Under-19s World Cup in 1998. His first domestic team was Free State, for whom he played between 1999 and 2001.{{Cite web |title=Andrew Gait |url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/8/8121/8121.html |access-date=2020-06-12 |website=CricketArchive|url-access=subscription}}
Signing to Derbyshire as a British citizen in readiness for the 2002 season was risky, as this mean Gait would count as an overseas player in South Africa and Free State had already lined up Jimmy Adams of the West Indies as its sole overseas player.{{Cite news |last=Tennant |first=Ivo |date=15 August 2001 |title=Andrew Gait |page=6|work=The Times}}{{Cite news |last=Robinson |first=Peter |date=17 August 2001 |title=Jimmy Adams set to skipper Free State, Gait released |language=en |work=ESPNcricinfo |url=https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/jimmy-adams-set-to-skipper-free-state-gait-released-96361 |access-date=2021-02-16}} Gait proved a revelation for the season, with an innings of 175 one of the highlights of his whole career. However, with trouble against swing bowlers, a problem for his game, his record in South Africa was better than his record in England.{{Cite news |last=Reed |first=Matthew |date=14 November 2005 |title=Brief profile of Andrew Gait|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Articles/3/3456.html |work=CricketArchive |access-date=16 February 2021|url-access=subscription}}
