History

Smartphone Experts – later called Mobile Nations – launched Android Central in September 2008 under the guidance of Dieter Bohn, later a founding editor of The Verge.

The first article published on the site was on 25 September, 2008, by Casey Chan, titled "T-Mobile G1 doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack."{{Cite news |last=Chan |first=Casey |date=25 September 2008 |title=T-Mobile G1 Doesn’t Have 3.5mm Headphone Jack |url=https://www.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-g1-doesnt-have-35mm-headphone-jack |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090219000337/http://androidcentral.com/t-mobile-g1-doesnt-have-35mm-headphone-jack/ |archive-date=19 February 2009 |access-date=26 February 2025 |work=Android Central}}

The site has published numerous exclusives and scoops since its founding, including a first look at the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet and the almost-never-released HTC Merge.

In 2019, Android Central’s parent company, Mobile Nations, was acquired by Future plc{{Cite web |date=8 March 2019 |title=Future PLC’s U.S. Subsidiary Acquires Mobile Nations |url=https://golenbock.com/future-plcs-u-s-subsidiary-acquires-mobile-nations/ |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250226163858/https://golenbock.com/future-plcs-u-s-subsidiary-acquires-mobile-nations/ |archive-date=26 February 2025 |access-date=26 February 2025 |website=Golenbock Eiseman Assor Bell & Peskoe LLP}} for $60 million.{{Cite web |date=15 March 2019 |title=Future acquires Mobile Nations |url=https://www.inpublishing.co.uk/articles/future-acquires-mobile-nations-14319 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250112204733/https://inpublishing.co.uk/articles/future-acquires-mobile-nations-14319 |archive-date=12 January 2025 |access-date=26 February 2025 |website=InPublishing}}
