Androsace saussurei is a plant species in the family Primulaceae.
Taxonomy
Androsace saussurei was named after Horace Bénédict de Saussure, an eighteenth-century scientist from Geneva. Description
Androsace saussurei is a perennial cushion plant species, usually {{convert|5|-|8|cm|in}} high and {{convert|3|–|10|cm|in}} in diameter. It is made of rosettes with diameters of {{convert|4.7|–|8.1|mm|in}}. It has hairy lanceolate leaves, usually {{convert|4.5|–|9.5|mm|in}} long and {{convert|1.1|–|1.7|mm|in}} wide. The flowers are white to purplish, {{convert|7|mm|in}} in diameter. And the buds are often purplish as well. It typically flowers from June to August.
Habitat and distribution
Androsace saussurei inhabit rock crevices on protogine and granite at elevations from {{convert|2000|to|4070|m|ft}}, which is the highest elevation known for a vascular plant in Italy. It is endemic to the Western Alps (Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Valais, Vanoise, Thabor).
