Andy's Jazz Club
Andy's Jazz Club, located several blocks north of the Chicago Loop, was founded as "Andy's 11 E. Lounge" in 1951 by Andy Rizzuto. A group of investors bought the property in 1975, changing its name to "Andy's".{{cite web|url=http://www.andysjazzclub.com/HistoryOfAndys/tabid/67/Default.aspx|title=History Of Andy's|publisher=Andy's Jazz CLub|accessdate=2009-07-20}} The club is one of the city's most popular jazz venues.{{cite news |last1=Reich |first1=Howard |title=Andy's Jazz Club swings into its 40th |url=https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/howard-reich/ct-jazz-andys-40th-20150428-column.html |accessdate=November 16, 2020 |work=Chicago Tribune |date=April 28, 2015}}
In 1977 jazz promoters Penny Tyler and John Defauw began producing midday jazz sessions at Andy's, which was later expanded to include performances later in the day with sets at 5pm and 9pm. The 5pm performance - known as "Jazz at Five" - has since become a Chicago tradition.{{cite book|url=https://archive.org/details/dacapojazzbluesl0000bird|url-access=registration|page=[https://archive.org/details/dacapojazzbluesl0000bird/page/250 250]|quote=andy's jazz chicago.|author=Christiane Bird|publisher=Da Capo Press|year=2001|title=Da Capo jazz and blues lover's guide to the U.S.|ISBN=978-0-306-81034-3}}
