Early life
Jao studied at the De La Salle University since elementary until college. He was a college buddy of Tommy Manotoc.
Career
= Coaching and executive =
Jao started in 1978 in Solidmills (a team in MICAA) as its assistant manager. He also worked as assistant coach under Manotoc in U/Tex Wranglers and San Miguel Beermen. In the two-year existence of Manila Beer Brewmasters, he served as their manager and team scout. In mid 80s, Jao served as PBA's league Treasurer. He served as the PBL commissioner from 1989 to 1990. He started as a color commentator on PBA on Vintage Sports in 1982 until 1999. Then, he returned in 2009 in PBA coverages.
He was nicknamed "Dr. J" by Joe Cantada.
