Angie Darby (born 2 May 1987) is an Australian modern pentathlete.{{cite sports-reference|title = Angie Darby|url = https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/da/angie-darby-1.html|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20200418105131/https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/da/angie-darby-1.html|url-status = dead|archive-date = 18 April 2020|access-date = 29 January 2013}} As of August 2011, Darby was ranked no. 141 in the world by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM).
Darby qualified as a lone competitor for the women's modern pentathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport threw out an appeal that questioned her Olympic eligibility. The Greek federation argued that Darby was ineligible because she failed to meet the full requirements of the five-event discipline, when she qualified for the games by winning the Asian & Oceanian Championships in Tokyo, Japan (four of the five disciplines were contested except for equestrian show jumping, because of an outbreak of equine influenza).{{cite news|title=Australian pentathlete clear to compete|url=http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/modernpentathlon/news/newsid=181668.html#australian+pentathlete+clear+compete|work=The Associated Press|publisher=NBC Olympics|date=7 August 2008|accessdate=29 January 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120825081239/http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/modernpentathlon/news/newsid=181668.html#australian+pentathlete+clear+compete|archive-date=25 August 2012|url-status=dead}}{{cite news|title=AOC welcomes legal fight to save pentathlete Angela Darby|url=http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/aoc-welcomes-fight-to-save-pentathlete/story-e6frg7mo-1111116870031|publisher=The Australian|date=10 July 2008|accessdate=29 January 2013}}
In the early rounds of the competition, Darby displayed a poor performance by finishing last out of thirty-six athletes in the air pistol shooting event (AP40), with a score of 184 points. Darby eventually placed thirty-first in one-touch épée fencing, but dropped to thirty-fifth position, when she stopped for up to 10 seconds halfway through the 200 m freestyle swimming race, halted by a pair of malfunctioned googles.{{cite news|title=Goggle trouble sinks Darby in modern pentathlon|url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-08-22/goggle-trouble-sinks-darby-in-modern-pentathlon/2567784|publisher=ABC Australia|date=22 August 2008|accessdate=29 January 2013}} Darby quickly moved to the top of the rankings, when she finished seventh in the show jumping segment, knocking off a total of 28 obstacle and time penalties. In the end, Darby finished the event with cross-country running in thirty-fifth place, for a total score of 4,816 points.{{cite news|title=Women's Modern Pentathlon |url=http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/modernpentathlon/resultsandschedules/rsc=MPW001000/standings.html |publisher=NBC Olympics |accessdate=29 January 2013 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120730210522/http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/modernpentathlon/resultsandschedules/rsc%3DMPW001000/standings.html |archivedate=30 July 2012 }}{{cite news|last=English|first=Ben|title=Australian Angie Darby bows out of modern pentathlon|url=http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/disaster-as-darby-bows-out/story-e6frg12c-1111117273171|archive-url=https://archive.today/20130219182010/http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/disaster-as-darby-bows-out/story-e6frg12c-1111117273171|url-status=dead|archive-date=19 February 2013|work=The Daily Telegraph|publisher=Perth Now|date=22 August 2008|accessdate=29 January 2013}}
