Angliers ({{IPA|fr|ɑ̃ɡlije}}) is a former village municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Témiscamingue Regional County Municipality. It is one of the two sectors in the municipality of Laverlochère-Angliers.
History
The first settlers arrived in 1911, but the village developed from 1924 onwards, after the Pouvoir-des-Quinze hydro-electric power station was built in 1922. It was named after Angliers, Vienne, in France, the ancestral birthplace of Lomer Gouin, premier of Quebec from 1905 to 1920. The forestry industry and log driving contributed greatly to its development.{{cite web |title=Histoire Angliers |url=https://www.laverlochere-angliers.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Histoire-Angliers.pdf |website=www.laverlochere-angliers.org |access-date=27 November 2023}}
On May 24, 1945, it was incorporated as the Village Municipality of Angliers with its territory taken from the Township Municipality of Guérin and the Municipality of Saint-Eugène-de-Guigues.{{cite web |title=Répertoire des entités géopolitiques: Angliers (village) 24.5.1945 - 1.1.2018 |url=https://www.mairesduquebec.com/mairesduquebec/munic.php?id=2682 |website=www.mairesduquebec.com |publisher=Institut généalogique Drouin |access-date=27 November 2023}}
It amalgamated with the Municipality of Laverlochère on January 1, 2018, to form the Municipality of Laverlochère-Angliers.{{cite book | url=https://www.publicationsduquebec.gouv.qc.ca/fileadmin/gazette/pdf_encrypte/lois_reglements/2017F/67696.pdf | title=Gazette Officielle du Québec, December 27, 2017, Vol. 149, No. 52 | publisher=Québec Official Publisher | pages=5847–5850 | date=December 27, 2017 | access-date=November 27, 2023}}
