Reception

Harford County Public Library's Jamie Watson commends the books as "indispensable for anyone with an interest in anime", with further comments about the book's "interest to teens and also serve as a great reference for collection development as all of the movies are considered classics by the authors."{{cite web|last=Watson |first=Jamie |url=http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/article/CA6527304.html |title=Adult Books for High School Students |date=January 2, 2008 |publisher=School Library Journal |accessdate=January 11, 2014 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080724182909/http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/article/CA6527304.html |archivedate=July 24, 2008 }} Ain't It Cool News{{'}}s Scott Green comments that the book is "written with a more objective voice than The Anime Encyclopedia or Manga: The Complete Guide. It is possible to suss out some vague sense of preference, but while a given person is unlikely to truly enjoy every work of anime discussed; every anime is described and evaluated in an even manner".{{cite web|last=Green |first=Scott |url=http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35306 |title=AICN Anime-Persepolis, Anime Classics Zettai, News and More |date=January 18, 2008 |publisher=Ain't It Cool News |accessdate=January 11, 2014 }}
