Early life and education

Zaki grew up in Cairo, Egypt. Her father was a pastor in the city. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology in the United States before returning to Cairo to attend the American University. She earned a master's in social psychology from The American University in Cairo and a Master's of Divinity from Calvin Theological Seminary. Zaki also earned her PhD in Preaching from Fuller Theological Seminary.

In 2011, she and her family returned to Cairo during the Egyptian Revolution.
