Antonio Manicone ({{IPA|it|anˈtɔːnjo maniˈkoːne}}; born 27 October 1966) is an Italian professional football manager and a former player, who functioned as a midfielder, both as a defensive midfielder, and as a deep-lying playmaker.
Career
Despite playing for several Italian clubs throughout his career, Manicone spent several years with Serie A side Inter (1992–96), the team with which he began his career for a season in 1985, winning the UEFA Cup with the club in 1994.{{cite web|url=http://www.interfc.it/1993-94.asp|title=INTER - CAMPIONATO 1993-94|publisher=Inter F.C.|language=Italian|accessdate=13 September 2015}}
During his time with the Milan club, he earned his only international cap for Italy under manager Arrigo Sacchi, in a 3–0 away win over Estonia in a 1994 World Cup qualifying match on 22 September 1993.{{cite web|url=http://www.figc.it/nazionali/DettaglioConvocato?codiceConvocato=1114&squadra=1|title=Manicone, Antonio|publisher=FIGC|language=Italian|accessdate=13 September 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180129081017/http://www.figc.it/nazionali/DettaglioConvocato?codiceConvocato=1114&squadra=1|archive-date=29 January 2018|url-status=dead}}{{cite web|url=http://archivio.corriere.it/Archivio/interface/slider.html#!Italia-il-gran-ballo-dei-debuttanti-/22-09-1993/22-09-1993/NobwRAdghgtgpmAXGAJlALlMAaMAzAJwHsYkwAmcgegAYBOKgRjroGYcx0izLaHm2YAL7Zw0eGQDWcAJ4B3IgRQd0cAB7oyASUwAbAJZRsAAn27jAcwJQIxgEZRduosZRx9ruHYCu6TBHQPYQBdIA|title=Italia, il gran ballo dei debuttanti|publisher=Il Corriere della Sera|language=Italian|author1=Fabio Monti|author2=Giancarlo Padovan|author3=Gianfranco Teotino|date=22 September 1993|accessdate=13 September 2015}}

Style of play
A quick, efficient, and tactically versatile player, Manicone was capable of operating in several midfield positions, as an advanced playmaker, as a deep-lying playmaker, and also as a defensive midfielder, where he excelled due to his work-rate, physique and ability to break down opposition plays. Due to his technique, vision, and long passing ability, he was capable of creating chances after winning back possession.{{cite web|url=http://www.fcinternews.it/accadde-ieri/storia-di-antonio-manicone-il-rinforzo-silenzioso-70264|title=Storia di Antonio Manicone, il rinforzo silenzioso|publisher=F.C.
