Aplocheiloidei is a suborder of the order Cyprinodontiformes consisting of three families which are commonly known as killifishes.
Families
The three families within the suborder Aplocheiloidei are:{{cite book |title=Fishes of the World |edition=5th |vauthors=Nelson JS, Grande TC, Wilson MV |year=2016 |pages=371 |publisher=Wiley |isbn=978-1-118-34233-6 |url=https://sites.google.com/site/fotw5th/ |access-date=2019-08-25 |archive-date=2019-04-08 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190408194051/https://sites.google.com/site/fotw5th/ |url-status=dead }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Van Der Laan R, Eschmeyer WN, Fricke R | title = Family-group names of Recent fishes | journal = Zootaxa | volume = 3882 | issue = 2 | pages = 1–230 | date = November 2014 | pmid = 25543675 | doi = 10.11646/zootaxa.3882.1.1 | doi-access = free }}

Proposed taxonomy
Some authorities have lumped the three families into a single family, Aplocheilidae, a well-established name, chosen for its stability in usage over time, and to avoid the impact of a new name at the family rank for a popular aquarium fish group. Under this proposal, the Aplocheilidae includes three subfamilies: Aplocheilinae for the species from Asia, Madagascar and the Seychelles; Cynolebiinae (called Rivulidae above) for the species from the Americas; and Nothobranchiinae for the species from the African mainland.{{cite journal | vauthors = Costa WJ | year = 2016 | url = http://www.senckenberg.de/files/content/forschung/publikationen/vertebratezoology/vz66-2/03_vertebrate_zoology_66-2_costa_125-140.pdf | title = Comparative morphology and classification of South American cynopoeciline killifishes (Cyprinodontiformes: Aplocheilidae), with notes on family-group names used for aplocheiloids. | journal =Vertebrate Zoology | volume = 66 | issue = 2 | pages = 125–140| doi = 10.3897/vz.66.e31538 | doi-access = free }}
