Apple Campus 3 or AC3,
and formerly called Central & Wolfe,
is an office complex owned and occupied by Apple Inc., located in Sunnyvale, California.
It is Apple's third large campus in Silicon Valley and was completed 2018. It was originally speculatively designed by the architecture and site engineering firm HOK and was constructed by HOK's Level 10 Construction. The Korth Sunseri Hagey (KSH) architecture firm and the Jay Paul Company and Landbank commercial real estate development companies were also involved in the project.{{Cite web |title=Apple Campus 3 |url=https://www.ksha.com/projects/apple-campus-3/ |access-date=2023-04-20 |website=KSH Architects |language=en-US}}{{clarify |date=September 2023 |reason=The KSH web page doesn't mention HOK and says its client was Jay Paul Company. None of the other sources seem to refer to KSH or Jay Paul Company. The CnW source page 1 says "Landbank is redeveloping an 18-acre site ... together with our world-class design team led by HOK architects." and under Landbank-->About says "Landbank is a privately held commercial real estate development company. We have acquired, developed, managed, and leased over 4,800,000 square feet of Office/R&D space to leading technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.". }}
Location and transportation access
The complex is in Sunnyvale, California, next to the Central Expressway at Wolfe Road, about {{convert|4|mi|km|sigfig=1}} north of Apple's current headquarters at Apple Park and former headquarters on Infinite Loop (both in Cupertino). The site is closer to Caltrain stations (the Sunnyvale and Lawrence stations) than the other two campuses, and is thus more conveniently located for workers to use Caltrain for transportation, although it is still farther than usual walking distance, so commuting by Caltrain typically also involves a company shuttle bus.{{Cite web |title=Apple's third large California campus is already built |url=https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/03/19/apples-third-large-california-campus-is-already-built |date=March 19, 2018 |access-date=2023-04-20 |website=AppleInsider |first=Daniel Eran |last=Dilger |language=en }}{{Cite web |last=Steeber |first=Michael |date=November 21, 2017 |title=Construction of Apple's stunning 'second spaceship' campus in Sunnyvale nears completion [Gallery] |url=https://9to5mac.com/2017/11/21/construction-of-apples-stunning-second-spaceship-campus-in-sunnyvale-nears-completion-gallery/ |access-date=2023-04-20 |website=9to5Mac |language=en-US}} Transit between the site and Apple Park takes about 10 minutes by car or an hour by city bus, and Apple provides shuttle buses for employees.
Design
The land area of the site is {{convert|18|acre|ha sqm}}. The multi-story office buildings have approximately {{Convert|882000|sqft|sqm}} of occupiable floorspace, supplemented by a {{Convert|1010000|sqft|sqm|adj=on}} multi-level parking garage, bringing the campus' total building square footage to {{Convert|1892000|sqft|sqm}}. The complex is dominated by three office buildings that are interconnected with two {{convert|60|ft|m|adj=mid|-wide}} connecting regions, each building having four stories of office space and two levels of underground parking. The site features {{Convert|90000|sqft|sqm}} of rooftop gardens, and landscaped open space covers 53% of the total area. A fourth building hosts amenities.{{clarify |date=September 2023 |reason=What exactly is in that fourth building? A cafeteria, shops, or exercise facilities or pool tables and table tennis tables? Are there cafeterias within the other buildings?}} Each floor of each office building has about {{Convert|62000|sqft|sqm}} of floorspace{{Cite web |title=The Central & Wolfe Campus |url=https://centralandwolfe.com/ |access-date=2023-04-20 |website=centralandwolfe.com |publisher=Landbank LLC}} and a ceiling height of {{Convert|13.5|ft|m}}. The three main buildings have platinum-level LEED 2009 Commercial Interiors as certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.{{cite web |url=https://www.usgbc.org/projects/apple-wolfe-campus-buildings-12 |title=Apple Wolfe Campus – Buildings 1&2 |website=U.S. Green Building Council |access-date=2023-09-26 |language=en}}{{cite web |url=https://www.usgbc.org/projects/apple-wolfe-campus-building-3 |title=Apple Wolfe Campus – Building 3 |website=U.S. Green Building Council |access-date=2023-09-26 |language=en}}
An aerial view of the buildings has been said to resemble "a broken fidget spinner". Originally, the building was designed to resemble the looped square command symbol used in macOS ({{char|⌘}}).
