An apple martini (appletini for short) is a cocktail containing vodka and one or more of apple juice, apple cider, apple liqueur, or apple brandy. Although the drink contains no vermouth by default, the term "apple martini" is consistent with the trend of calling any straight liquor in a martini glass a "martini," such as the saketini or other variations.{{cite news|url=http://www.nypost.com/seven/11152006/entertainment/food/stir_crazy__food_brian_niemietz.htm|title=Stir Crazy!|last=Brian|first=Niemietz|date=2006-11-15|work=The New York Post|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20081213151447/http://www.nypost.com/seven/11152006/entertainment/food/stir_crazy__food_brian_niemietz.htm|archive-date=December 13, 2008}}

This drink, originally called an Adam's Apple Martini because the bartender who created it was named Adam, was created in 1996 at Lola's West Hollywood restaurant.{{cite news | url = https://www.nytimes.com/2000/10/04/dining/the-greening-of-the-martini.html | title = The Greening of the Martini | first = Rick | last = Marin | date = October 4, 2000 | newspaper = The New York Times | access-date = October 3, 2015}}{{cite news | url = http://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-lolas-apple-martini-close-september-20130815-story.html | title = Lola's, famous for the apple martini, to close in September | first = Jenn | last = Harris | date = August 15, 2013 | newspaper = Los Angeles Times | access-date = October 3, 2015}}

Recipe

In its purest form, it would contain:

:4 cl ({{Frac|1|1|2}} oz) top shelf vodka (or gin)

:2 cl ({{Frac|2|3}} oz) apple juice, cider or, most often, apple pucker

Typically, the ingredients are shaken or stirred and then strained into a cocktail glass.

=Variations=

A sweet and sour mix can also be added before shaking.

Optionally, vermouth may be included, as in a regular martini.

A similar cocktail can be made with Martini Bianco white vermouth and apple juice in a long drink glass filled with ice.{{cite web | url = http://www.cocktailsoftheworld.com/cocktails-overview/cocktails-by-country/italy/cocktail/martini-bianco-and-apple-juice.html | title = Martini Bianco and Apple Juice | work = Cocktails of the World | access-date = October 3, 2015}}
