It also scoops up surface level algae on bodies of water.{{Cite web |last=madison.verhulst |date=2022-08-25 |title=Mechanical Algae Removal in California |url=https://www.solitudelakemanagement.com/mechanical-algae-removal-in-california/#:~:text=What%20is%20an%20Aquamog?,on%20shore%20for%20offsite%20disposal. |access-date=2024-12-06 |website=SOLitude Lake Management: Full-Service Lake And Pond Management |language=en-US}} It has a long, extendable, arm attached to the operators cabin, attached to a solid base that can traverse many water conditions.{{Cite web |title=Aquamog – The Home of The Aquamog |url=https://aquamog.net/#:~:text=The%20Aquamog%20was%20designed%20and,number%20of%20aquatic%20maintenance%20tasks. |access-date=2024-12-06 |language=en-US}} An aquamog was used in 2018 for removing water primrose from North Lake in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.{{cite news |title=Exotic contraption clears invasive plants from Golden Gate Park's choked lakes |date=November 21, 2018 |author=Dominic Fracassa |publisher=San Francisco Chronicle |url=https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Exotic-contraption-clears-invasive-plants-from-13413198.php |access-date=January 31, 2019}} A newspaper photo shows a machine similar to a backhoe on very wide crawlers.{{cite news |title='Aquamog' to the rescue! History and Creation
The aquamog was invented in the beginning of the 1980s by the aforementioned Aquatic Environments (AU) company. Jim Nevrela, an engineer on the project, chose the name aquamog from the multi-purpose vehicle Unimog produced by Mercedes-Benz.{{cite web |date=21 June 2011 |title=Aquamogs |url=http://aquamog.net/aquamogs/aquamogs/ |access-date=November 22, 2018 |publisher=DK Environmental}} The first model of the aquamog was created from an aquatic weed harvester, as a trial to see if the concept could function mechanically and for its desired purpose.
