Araneida is a subgroup of Tetrapulmonata. It was originally defined by Jörg Wunderlich in 2015 as a subgroup of Araneae, including all true spiders, with Wunderlich also including Uraraneida within Araneae.{{Citation |last1=Wunderlich |first1=J. |date=2015 |editor1-last=Wunderlich |editor1-first=J. |contribution=On the evolution and the classification of spiders, the Mesozoic spider faunas, and descriptions of new Cretaceous taxa mainly in amber from Burmese (Burma) (Arachnida: Araneae) |title=Beiträge zur Araneologie |pages=21–408 |volume=9 |chapter-url=http://www.joergwunderlich.de/Downloads/Beitr._Araneol._Band_9_(2015).pdf#43}}, cited in {{Harvtxt|Dunlop|Penney|Jekel|2017}}{{Cite book |last1=Dunlop |first1=Jason A. |last2=Penney |first2=David |year=2011 |editor-last=Zhang |editor-first=Z.-Q. |contribution=Order Araneae Clerck, 1757 |title=Animal biodiversity: An outline of higher-level classification and survey of taxonomic richness |series=Zootaxa |number=3148 |publication-place=Auckland, New Zealand |publisher=Magnolia Press |isbn=978-1-86977-850-7 |access-date=2015-10-31 |contribution-url=http://mapress.com/zootaxa/2011/f/zt03148p153.pdf |name-list-style=amp }}{{citation |last1=Dunlop |first1=J.A. |last2=Penney |first2=D. |last3=Jekel |first3=D. |date=2017 |title=A summary list of fossil spiders and their relatives, version 19 |work=World Spider Catalog |publisher=Natural History Museum Bern |url=https://wwwnmbe..wsc.ch/resources/fossils/Fossils18.pdf |access-date=2021-07-24 |name-list-style=amp |page=127}} Araneida was redefined by Wunderlich in 2019 to include all modern spiders (Araneae), as well as Chimerarachnida, but excluding Uraraneida. Chimerarachnida and Araneae both possess spinnerets, which are absent in Uraraneida. Uraraneida and Araneida are grouped together in the clade Serikodiastida.Wunderlich, J. 2019: [http://www.joergwunderlich.de/Downloads/Beitr._Araneol._Band_12_(2019).pdf What is a spider?] Beiträge zur Araneologie 12: 1–32.{{cite book |last1=Wunderlich |first1=J. |title=Beiträge zur Araneologie, 15 |last2=Müller |first2=P. |year=2022 |isbn=978-3-931473-22-8 |editor=Jörg Wunderlich |pages=119–173 |chapter=Some spiders in Cretaceous amber from Myanmar (Araneida: Chimerarachnida and Araneae) |chapter-url=http://www.joergwunderlich.de/Downloads/Beitr._Araneol._Band_15_(2022).pdf}}{{Cite journal |last=Dunlop |first=Jason A. |date=2022-06-27 |title=Spider Origins: a Palaeontological Perspective |url=https://bioone.org/journals/arachnology/volume-19/issue-sp1/arac.2022.19.sp1.182/Spider-Origins-a-Palaeontological-Perspective/10.13156/arac.2022.19.sp1.182.full |journal=Arachnology |volume=19 |issue=sp1 |doi=10.13156/arac.2022.19.sp1.182 |s2cid=250148030 |issn=2050-9928}}
