Arathoon Stephen ({{langx|hy|Արաթուն Սթիվեն}}; 1861 – 14 May 1927) was an Armenian hotelier and real estate developer based in British India. Amongst other properties, he owned and developed the Kolkata institutions: the Empire Theatre and the Grand Hotel.

Born in 1861, Stephen arrived in Calcutta from Isfahan (A city & province in Iran) sometime in the early nineteenth century where he first began selling jewelry from a wheelbarrow. Later, he opened a jewelry and antique shop at 18 Chowringhee Road and the Theatre Royale at No. 16. In 1911, he bought out a run-down boarding house run by Mrs. Annie Monk and built the Grand Hotel.{{Cite book|last=Denby|first=Elaine|title=Grand Hotels: Reality and Illusion|publisher=Reaktion|date=April 2004|pages=197–198|isbn=9781861891211|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=NhLyGME7734C&q=%22Great+Eastern+Hotel%22+%22Spence+Hotel%22&pg=PA197}} Stephen also owned several other properties in Calcutta, many of which now have heritage status, including Queens Mansion (which houses the Armenian Club of Calcutta), Stephen Court, Stephen House and the Empire Theatre.{{Cite news|newspaper=The Times of India|title=500 tea-pots, 1 cockroach: A Good Average|last=Karkaria|first=Bachi|date=28 March 2010|url=http://lite.epaper.timesofindia.com/mobile.aspx?article=yes&pageid=4&edlabel=TOIKM&mydateHid=28-03-2010&pubname=&edname=&articleid=Ar00400&format=&publabel=TOI|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140723150545/http://lite.epaper.timesofindia.com/mobile.aspx?article=yes&pageid=4&edlabel=TOIKM&mydateHid=28-03-2010&pubname=&edname=&articleid=Ar00400&format=&publabel=TOI|url-status=dead|archive-date=23 July 2014}} He also built and owned the Everest Hotel in Darjeeling.{{cite web |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/Oberoi-may-reopen-Hills-hotel-but-skip-Rajarhat/articleshow/15397068.cms |title=Oberoi may reopen Hills hotel, but skip Rajarhat - Times of India |website=The Times of India |access-date=26 January 2022 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130629122154/http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-08-08/kolkata/33099300_1_oberoi-group-prs-oberoi-s-s-mukherji |archive-date=29 June 2013 |url-status=live}} Stephen died on 14 May 1927.{{cite web |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/us |title=History hunt on fun street - Page 2 - Times of India |website=The Times of India |access-date=26 January 2022 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130629122502/http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-12-26/kolkata/30558450_1_clue-park-street-carnival-google/2 |archive-date=29 June 2013 |url-status=live}}{{cite web |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata-/Grande-Dame/articleshow/44606955.cms |title=Grande Dame - Times of India |website=The Times of India |access-date=26 January 2022 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130629121900/http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2003-04-27/kolkata/27263897_1_oberoi-grand-grand-hotel-banyan-tree |archive-date=29 June 2013 |url-status=live}}
