Naval career
Dickson was the captain of the SS Stanbrook, a British merchant ship that rescued almost 3,000 Spanish Republicans in the port of Alicante, in Spain, during the night of 28 March 1939.{{Cite web |title=Stanbrook {{!}} enciclopedia.cat |url=https://www.enciclopedia.cat/gran-enciclopedia-catalana/stanbrook |access-date=2023-05-09 |website=www.enciclopedia.cat}}
On November 18, 1939, at the beginning of World War II, the SS Stanbrook was torpedoed in the North Sea by U-boat U-57. Archibald Dickson died on board.
