History

The first record of Ardagh fielding a GAA team was in 1908 when they played Knockmore in a challenge game. There was, however, no official team in Ardagh until 1929. Another team was affiliated in 1944 but, due to emigration, was disbanded in 1946.{{cite web|url = http://ardaghgaaclub.com/contentPage/10017120/c_l_u_b_h_i_s_t_o_r_y | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20240424153353/http://ardaghgaaclub.com/contentPage/10017120/c_l_u_b_h_i_s_t_o_r_y | archivedate = 24 April 2024 | website = ardaghgaaclub.com | title = Ardagh GAA - Club History }} In the late 1950s and 1960s, Ardagh teams won several local 7-a-side tournaments and some of the players played for Ballina and Crossmolina. In 1972, a new club was formed, named Ardmoy, to represent the parishes of Ardagh and Moygownagh. While operating as separate clubs, they fielded a combined team for championship fixtures.{{cite web|url = https://www.independent.ie/regionals/sligo/sport/gaa-digest-conventional-wisdom/27568532.html| work = Sligo Champion | title = GAA Digest: Conventional Wisdom | date = 8 January 2010 | accessdate = 3 September 2024 | quote = In Mayo Moygownagh and Ardagh had amalgamated for playing purposes fielding a team, Ardmoy, for the Championship but otherwise operating as separate entities }}
