Arhouriella is arguably the oldest example of a bivalve mollusc in the fossil record. Arguably because there are older contenders to this crown, and because there is not a watertight case that it is a bivalve.{{cite Q|Q28139976}} The type and only species, Arhouriella opheodontoides, was named and described by Gerd Geyer & Michael Streng in 1998.{{cite journal|url=http://www.sepaleontologia.es/revista/anteriores/REP%20Homenaje%20G.%20Vidal%20%281996%29/08.%20Geyer%20&%20Streng.pdf |author1=Geyer, G|author2=Streng, M.|date=1998|title=Middle Cambrian Polycypods frm the Anti-Atlas, Morocco|journal=Revista Española de Paleontología|pages=83–96|language=es}}
