Operations

Wildlife conservation
The Arizona Game and Fish Department has developed a "Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy" (CWCS)—a 10-year vision for managing Arizona’s fish, wildlife and natural habitats, input and partnerships with various agency cooperators, sportsman and recreational groups, conservation organizations, special interest groups, Native American tribes, county and municipal governments, and the general public.{{Cite web |title=Arizona’s State Wildlife Action Plan: 2012 - 2022 - ScienceBase-Catalog |url=https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/556c7a3be4b0d9246a9f7efb |access-date=2023-10-26 |website=www.sciencebase.gov |language=en-US}}
Watchable wildlife
Arizona is home to more than 900 animal species and 50 million public acres of natural land. The Arizona Wildlife Viewing Program strives to manage wildlife while providing for the responsible recreational use of the resource. Much of the support for the program comes from the Heritage Fund, a fund started in 1990 by Arizona voters to further conservation efforts in the state.{{Cite journal |last=Virden |first=Randy J. |date=October 1991 |title=The Arizona Heritage Fund: An Innovative Strategy for Funding Parks, Wildlife, and Historic Preservation |url=http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/07303084.1991.10604022 |journal=Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance |language=en |volume=62 |issue=8 |pages=31–34 |doi=10.1080/07303084.1991.10604022 |issn=0730-3084}} Funding comes from Arizona Lottery ticket sales.
