Arkaea was a metal band formed in 2008 featuring members from Fear Factory and Threat Signal.
History
The band was formed by drummer Raymond Herrera and guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers, who had just left Fear Factory. They recorded a demo, sent it to Threat Signal vocalist Jon Howard and Arkaea was spawned. They tried to persuade Sam Rivers for bass, but he declined due to location.{{Cite web|url=https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/guitarist-christian-olde-wolbers-on-fear-factory-we-re-just-taking-a-break/|title=Guitarist CHRISTIAN OLDE WOLBERS On FEAR FACTORY: 'We're Just Taking A Break'|date=December 27, 2008|website=BLABBERMOUTH.NET}} Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne offered his services but could not tour due to Mudvayne commitments. Finally, another Threat Signal member, Pat Kavanagh, joined on bass.
Their debut album was 13 tracks, most of which were originally intended for a new Fear Factory album. Years in the Darkness was released on July 14, 2009.{{cite web |title=Arkaea – Years In The Darkness |url=https://www.discogs.com/master/192995-Arkaea-Years-In-The-Darkness |website=discogs.com |publisher=Discogs |access-date=January 31, 2022}} A five-minute sampler was released, the band posted the opening track "Locust" on their Myspace page and a video was released for "Gone Tomorrow".{{cite web |title=Arkaea "Gone Tomorrow" |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVPJ6A74i24 |website=youtube.com |publisher=YouTube |access-date=November 6, 2021}} It sold 980 copies in its first week, but was not particularly well received by critics.{{cite web |title=ARKAEA: Another New Song Posted Online |url=https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/arkaea-another-new-song-posted-online/ |website=blabbermouth.net |date=July 3, 2009 |publisher=Blabbermouth |access-date=November 6, 2021}}{{cite web |last1=III |first1=James |title=A new machine, a new misfire |url=https://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/Arkaea/Years_in_the_Darkness/243385/ |website=metal-archives.com |publisher=Encyclopaedia Metallum |access-date=November 6, 2021}}{{cite web |title=Arkaea Years in the Darkness |url=https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/31329/Arkaea-Years-in-the-Darkness/ |website=sputnikmusic.com |publisher=Sputnik Music |access-date=November 6, 2021}}{{cite web |last1=Jessup |first1=Scott |title=Arkaea: Years In Darkness |url=https://www.seaoftranquility.org/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=8011 |website=seaoftranquility.org |publisher=Sea of Tranquility |access-date=November 6, 2021}}{{cite web |last1=Falzon |first1=Denise |title=Arkaea Years in the Darkness |url=https://exclaim.ca/music/article/arkaea-years_in_darkness |website=exclaim.ca |publisher=Exclaim! |access-date=November 6, 2021}}

Despite releasing a short pre-production demo in 2012 and promising a new album later that year, the band has not been publicly active since. In 2011, Olde Wolbers moved on to the band Beowülf; Herrera on to entrepreneurial ventures. In December 2019, Wolbers noted in an Instagram post that he had started working on a new Arkaea album, but also noted that Herrera would be "too busy" to contribute.{{Cite web|url=https://www.instagram.com/p/B6LegUKHukr/ |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/iarchive/instagram/christian_oldewolbers/2200987004963842347 |archive-date=December 25, 2021 |url-access=registration|title=Christian Olde Wolbers on Instagram: "The time has come for Chapter 2.
