Armenpress was founded on 18 December 1918{{cite book|editor1-last=Ayvazyan|editor1-first=Hovhannes|contribution=Հեռագրա-լրատվական գործակալություններ [Telegraph and media agencies]|title=Հայաստան հանրագիտարան [Armenia Encyclopedia]|date=2012|publisher=Armenian Encyclopedia Publishing|location=Yerevan|page=[https://hy.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=%D4%B7%D5%BB:Armenia_Encyclopedia.djvu/787&action=edit&redlink=1 787]|language=hy}} by the government of the First Republic of Armenia as the Armenian Telegraph Agency (Հայաստանի հեռագրական գործակալություն). Simon Vratsian played a major role in the establishment of the agency. After the Sovietization of Armenia in 1920 it was renamed to Armenkavrosta, and subsequently known as Armenrosta and Armenta. It was renamed Armenpress in 1972. Armenpress collaborates with Reuters, TASS (Russia) and Xinhua (China).
