Services
Arnold Lodge receives referrals from courts, prisons, the probation service, social services, high secure hospitals, and other mental health units for forensic psychiatry assessment and/or treatment. The patients are mainly mentally disordered offenders or others with similar needs.{{cite journal|title=First admissions to a regional secure unit over a 16-year period: changes in demographic and service characteristics|journal=The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry |volume=12|pages=78–89 |year=2001|doi=10.1080/09585180121913|last1 = Ricketts|first1 = Dale|last2=Carnell |first2=Heidi |last3=Davies |first3=Steffan |last4=Kaul |first4=Adarsh |last5=Duggan |first5=Conor |s2cid=144212491 }}
There are seven wards: two male rehabilitation wards (Thornton and Foxton wards), one male acute/admission ward (Rutland ward), two male personality disorder wards (Cannock and Ridgeway wards), and two female wards (Tamar and Coniston). Coniston ward is for women who require an enhanced level of care within medium security. This service will be one of three national pilots for a model of service known as WEMSS (Women's Enhanced Medium Secure Services).{{cite journal|last1=Edge|first1=Dawn|author-link=Dawn Edge|last2=Walker|first2=Tammi|last3=Meacock|first3=Rachel|last4=Wilson|first4=Hannah|last5=McNair|first5=Louisa|last6=Shaw|first6=Jenny|last7=Gutridge|first7=Kerry|last8=Mitchell|first8=Heather|last9=Robinson|first9=Louise|last10=Senior|first10=Jane|last11=Sutton|first11=Matthew|year=2017|title=Secure pathways for women in the UK: lessons from the women's enhanced medium secure services (WEMSS) pilots|url=https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/en/publications/secure-pathways-for-women-in-the-uk-lessons-from-the-womens-enhanced-medium-secure-services-wemss(6c313d08-5592-4ff7-87a6-e79809c271eb).html|journal=The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry & Psychology|volume=28|issue=2|pages=206–225|doi=10.1080/14789949.2016.1244279|last12=Abel|first12=Kathryn|s2cid=151739942 }}
