Austrian and American actor, film producer, businessman, retired professional bodybuilder and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has appeared in over 51 films, and has also ventured into directing and producing. He began his acting career primarily with small roles in film and television starting in 1969. For his first film role, he was credited as "Arnold Strong", but was credited with his birth name thereafter. He has appeared mainly in action and comedy films.{{cite magazine |last=Chase |first=Donald |title=A Hard Man is Good to Film |magazine=Entertainment Weekly |date=June 8, 1990 |url=https://ew.com/article/1990/06/08/arnold-schwarzenegger-hollywoods-next-leading-man/ |access-date=February 19, 2009 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20091219221010/http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,317552,00.html |archive-date=December 19, 2009 |url-status=live }} In addition to films and television, he has appeared in music videos for AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Guns N' Roses.

In the 1980s, Schwarzenegger became his primary character in two film franchises: as Conan in the Conan series and as The Terminator in the Terminator series. His other film roles include Commando, The Running Man, Predator, Total Recall, Last Action Hero and True Lies. Although Schwarzenegger's acting career was put on hiatus due to his position as governor of California, he also made several cameos in various films while in office, including The Kid & I and The Expendables.{{cite news|title=Guv to Shoot Action Film Amid Budget Drama |work=NBC News |date=February 19, 2009 |url=http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/entertainment/Guv-to-Shoot-Action-Film-Amid-Budget-Drama.html |access-date=February 19, 2009 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190401203439/https://www.nbclosangeles.com/entertainment/celebrity/Guv-to-Shoot-Action-Film-Amid-Budget-Drama.html |archive-date=April 1, 2019 |url-status=live }} On February 11, 2011, just over a month after leaving office, Schwarzenegger announced he would return to acting.{{cite web |url=http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=628473>1=28101 |title=Schwarzenegger says he's returning to acting |publisher=MSN |date=February 11, 2011 |access-date=February 11, 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110214065958/http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=628473>1=28101 |archive-date=February 14, 2011 |url-status=dead }}
