History

The library system was founded in 1974 to coordinate services among the libraries in Rock County. This collaboration allowed for the expansion of library services to the residents of the county, including interlibrary loan, a book delivery system, and public relations activities.Arrowhead Library System. In 2017 the Arrowhead Library System joined the SHARE consortium, which linked Arrowhead to other library systems in southern Wisconsin. This allowed for the replacement of the cataloging software used by the ALS, increasing the number of books in the catalog from 750,000 to over 2.15 million; provided for user access to a greater number of library items; and provided a greater range of digital features for library patrons.{{cite news|last1=Magee|first1=Jake|title=Rock County libraries to get expanded, simpler catalog|url=http://www.gazettextra.com/20170907/rock_county_libraries_to_get_expanded_simpler_catalog|accessdate=October 15, 2017|newspaper=The Janesville Gazette|date=September 7, 2017}}{{cite news|last1=Brooks|first1=Lisa|title=Community Voices: What's up at the library this fall?|url=http://www.hngnews.com/milton_courier/opinion/columns/article_d8cc143e-98ae-11e7-84d9-9f3c4c65bec4.html|accessdate=October 15, 2017|newspaper=The Milton Courier|date=September 13, 2017}}
