= Retirement =

In October 2016, Lynch underwent a discectomy procedure to remove a portion of an intervertebral disc. Complications arose when fluid started leaking from the surgical wound shortly after the surgery. As a result, he was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where emergency surgery was performed to remove the infected tissue. The severity of the infection required Lynch to stay in the hospital for 6 days. To address the lingering Strep Virus infection, a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line was attached through his armpit prior to his discharge. Following a six-month period of antibiotics and rehabilitation, Lynch made the decision to retire from football.{{Cite web |last=Writer |first=Tommy Boyd {{!}} Staff |title=Arthur Lynch overcomes injury, rejection to fulfill dream of joining the military |url=https://www.redandblack.com/sports/football/arthur-lynch-overcomes-injury-rejection-to-fulfill-dream-of-joining-the-military/article_bfb47bb8-a667-11e8-8358-17e37d322553.html |access-date=January 27, 2023 |website=The Red and Black |date=August 23, 2018 |language=en |archive-date=January 27, 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230127025943/https://www.redandblack.com/sports/football/arthur-lynch-overcomes-injury-rejection-to-fulfill-dream-of-joining-the-military/article_bfb47bb8-a667-11e8-8358-17e37d322553.html |url-status=live }}
