Football career

Arthuro was born in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. After a brief youth spell in Germany with Hamburger SV, he returned to his country to start his professional career, with lowly Criciúma Esporte Clube. The following year, aged just 18, he moved abroad again, spending three years without any first-team appearances for Middlesbrough.[https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/player-lay-offs-no-cause-for-alarm-agent-107276.html Player lay-offs no cause for alarm – agent]; The Independent, 2 June 2003

Next stop was Spain, and Arthuro also struggled initially: he only appeared seven times with Racing de Santander's reserves in the third division but fared better in the following years, successively with Sporting de Gijón, Deportivo Alavés[http://hemeroteca.mundodeportivo.com/preview/2005/07/22/pagina-22/717524/pdf.html# Arthuro, duodécimo fichaje (Arthuro, twelfth signing)]; Mundo Deportivo, 22 July 2005 (in Spanish) and Córdoba CF[http://hemeroteca.mundodeportivo.com/preview/2007/07/25/pagina-31/1416495/pdf.html# Arthuro, quinto de Córdoba (Arthuro, fifth at Córdoba)]; Mundo Deportivo, 25 July 2007 (in Spanish)– he also appeared in six scoreless games with the Basques in 2005–06's La Liga, with relegation.

Released by Alavés in June 2008, Arthuro played in Romania with FC Steaua București until January of the following year,[https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/01d4-0e708eb684a3-4bd0d0ff7479-1000--steaua-sever-ties-with-latin-duo/ Steaua sever ties with Latin duo]; UEFA, 9 December 2008 when he transferred to Russian club FC Terek Grozny. Again in quick succession he moved teams again, signing in May with Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.

Arthuro represented his fourth side in one year when he signed with RC Celta de Vigo, also from the Spanish second level.[http://hemeroteca.mundodeportivo.com/preview/2009/07/19/pagina-27/4952175/pdf.html# Arthuro regresa al fútbol español para jugar en Vigo (Arthuro returns to Spanish football to play in Vigo)]; Mundo Deportivo, 19 July 2009 (in Spanish) However, in early January 2010, both parties agreed to terminate his contract after poor performances overall (he failed to score a single official goal) and failure to adjust to the city;[http://www.laregion.es/noticia/114434/arthuro/celtadevigo El Celta llega a un acuerdo con Arthuro para rescindir el contrato del delantero (Celta agree with Arthuro to terminate forward's contract)] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110720142031/http://www.laregion.es/noticia/114434/arthuro/celtadevigo|date=20 July 2011}}; La Región, 12 January 2010 (in Spanish) he immediately found a new club, joining Al Dhafra S.C.C. in the United Arab Emirates.

Late in 2010, Arthuro moved to Portugal and joined U.D. Leiria, but quickly returned to his homeland and signed for Avaí Futebol Clube. After only a couple of matches he changed teams and countries again, joining Johor Darul Takzim F.C. in Malaysia.[http://www.nst.com.my/sports/soccer/johor-on-samba-path-1.43672 Johor on samba path]; New Straits Times, 8 February 2012[http://football.thestar.com.my/2012/02/08/johor-fc-fail-to-sign-becamengo-due-to-travel-document-problems/ Johor FC fail to sign Becamengo due to travel document problems] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120209072013/http://football.thestar.com.my/2012/02/08/johor-fc-fail-to-sign-becamengo-due-to-travel-document-problems/ |date=9 February 2012 }}; This Is Football, 8 February 2012
